Last weekend saw the welcome return of the FIA World Endurance Championship and with it, the automotive works of art that fill its roster descended on Silverstone for their opening skirmish of 2015… And what a race it was!
Over the course of the 6 hour race, all three of the works LMP1 teams headed the field as lap records tumbled; Allan McNish’s previous 2013 record beaten within 6 minutes of the race start. Final bragging rights went to Andre Lotterer with a 1:40.836 lap with a 131.7mph average speed, nearly 2 seconds inside McNish’s record.
The battle for the lead was race long but it was the #7 Audi R18 of Marcel Fassler, André Lotterer and Benoît Treluyer that bested the rest to take a great win.
If you haven’t sampled the WEC experience live, I implore you to consider a trip to the next round at Spa on the 2nd of May or even better; the jewel in the crown: Le Mans… You won’t be disappointed.
