The 1998 Le Mans 24 Hours saw the debut of Toyota’s TS020 ‘GT-One’, the marques first foray into the top class of sportscar racing since the demise of Group C.

Three GT-One’s would enter the race, all wearing a gloriously loud ‘tiger-stripe’ liveries. The #27 car, driven by an all Japanese crew of Ukyo Katayama, Toshio Suzuki and Keiichi Tsuchiya would be the only car to make the chequered flag, placing 9th; a success for the cars first competitve race and the basis for a stronger assault the following year.
